If you sell a private-label product on Amazon, Brand Registry is the line between owning a brand and just listing a product anyone can copy. It unlocks the tools that drive conversion and advertising, and it gives you the power to protect your listings. This guide covers exactly what you need, how to enroll step by step, what you get, and why applications get rejected.
Amazon Brand Registry is Amazon's program for brand owners. To enroll, you need a registered trademark, or in many cases a pending application, from an office Amazon accepts, and the mark must match the brand on your products or packaging. Enrollment unlocks A+ Content, Brand Stores, Sponsored Brands, Brand Analytics, Vine and brand-protection tools.
- A trademark comes first. No eligible mark, no Brand Registry.
- The brand name on the trademark must match what's printed on your product or packaging.
- Amazon verifies ownership by sending a code to the contact listed on the trademark record, so know who that is before you apply.
- Most rejections come from mismatches: brand name, images, or trademark status.
- Enrollment is the start of brand protection, not the end. Someone still has to monitor listings and report violations.
What is Amazon Brand Registry?
Amazon Brand Registry is a free program that lets a trademark owner prove to Amazon that they own a brand. Once Amazon links your trademark to your brand name, you get more control over listings under that brand, access to brand-only marketing tools, and tools to report infringement.
For private-label sellers, it's close to mandatory. Without it, you can't run Sponsored Brands ads, you can't add A+ Content, and you have much less say when another seller edits your listing or lists a copy of your product under your brand name.
Brand Registry is separate from selling. You enroll the brand, then give the right people and seller accounts access to it.
What are the Amazon Brand Registry requirements?
Amazon updates the details, so check the current requirements on the Brand Registry site before you apply. The core has been stable for a while:
- An eligible trademark. A registered trademark, or in many cases a pending trademark application, from a government trademark office Amazon accepts. The USPTO is accepted, along with a list of other national and regional offices that Amazon publishes.
- An accepted mark type. Amazon typically accepts word marks and design marks that include the brand name in words, letters or numbers. A purely pictorial logo with no text may not qualify. Check the current rules.
- A matching brand name. The brand name on your trademark should match the brand name permanently shown on your products or packaging, and the brand you use in your listings.
- Product and packaging images. Clear photos showing the brand name on the product or its packaging.
- An Amazon account. You sign in to Brand Registry with an Amazon account, usually your Seller Central or Vendor Central login.
- Access to the trademark contact. Amazon sends a verification code to the correspondent listed on the trademark record, often the attorney who filed it. You need that person to pass the code back.
If you don't have a trademark yet, Amazon's IP Accelerator program connects brands with Amazon-vetted law firms for trademark filing. In some marketplaces, it can give you access to Brand Registry protections while your application is still pending. Terms and availability vary, so confirm the current details with Amazon.

How do you get Brand Registry on Amazon, step by step?
- Secure the trademark. Run a clearance search, choose the mark type and classes, and file with the USPTO or another accepted office. A word mark usually gives the broadest protection for an Amazon brand.
- Confirm eligibility. Make sure your registration or pending application is accepted by Amazon, and that its status and owner details are correct in the office's online records.
- Put the brand on the product. The brand name should be permanently printed, labeled or engraved on the product or packaging, matching the trademark.
- Sign in to Brand Registry. Go to Amazon's Brand Registry site and sign in with your Amazon seller or vendor credentials.
- Enroll your brand. Enter the brand name, trademark office and registration or serial number. Upload product and packaging images, list your product categories, and add manufacturing and distribution information.
- Pass the verification code. Amazon sends a code to the trademark contact on record. Get it from them and submit it in Brand Registry to prove you control the mark.
- Get approved and set up access. Once approved, add users and roles, link your seller account, and start using the brand tools.
What are the benefits of Amazon Brand Registry?
Here is what enrollment typically unlocks. Some programs have extra eligibility rules or are limited to certain marketplaces, so availability varies.
| Benefit | What it does | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| A+ Content | Rich images, comparison charts and text modules below the fold on the product page. | Helps conversion and answers buyer questions the bullets can't fit. See our A+ Content guide. |
| Brand Store | A free, multi-page storefront on Amazon with its own URL. | Gives ad traffic and external traffic a branded destination. See our Brand Store guide. |
| Sponsored Brands and Sponsored Display | Brand-level ads with your logo, headline and multiple products or video, plus display targeting. | Adds ad formats beyond Sponsored Products, including top-of-search brand placements. |
| Brand Analytics | Reports such as Search Query Performance, search terms and demographics. | Shows which searches you win and lose. Core data for keyword and rank decisions. |
| Amazon Vine | Invites trusted reviewers to review new products, for eligible listings. | Helps new products get early, honest reviews. See our Amazon Vine guide. |
| Report a Violation | A tool to search for and report counterfeits, trademark or copyright infringement and listing abuse. | Your main lever against hijackers and knock-offs. |
| Transparency and Project Zero | Separate programs, where available and eligible: unit-level serialization codes (Transparency) and expanded self-service counterfeit removal (Project Zero). | Stronger counterfeit prevention for brands that are frequently copied. |
| Control of listing content | Greater authority over the title, images and other detail-page content for your brand. | Reduces the risk of other sellers changing your listing. |
Enrolled brands can also access tools like Manage Your Experiments for A/B testing content, and programs such as Amazon Attribution and the Brand Referral Bonus where available. Check what's live in your Brand Registry dashboard.
Why do Brand Registry applications get rejected?
Most rejections are fixable. The common ones:
| Rejection reason | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Brand name doesn't match the trademark | Different spelling, spacing or extra words on the application versus the mark. | Enroll the brand name exactly as it appears on the trademark record. |
| Brand not visible on product or packaging | Images show a generic product, a sticker, or a brand name that doesn't match. | Submit clear photos with the brand permanently printed or affixed. Update packaging if needed. |
| Trademark not eligible | Unaccepted office, unaccepted mark type, or a pending application in an office where Amazon requires registration. | Check Amazon's current accepted offices and mark types. Consider a word mark or IP Accelerator. |
| Verification code not returned | The trademark contact is an attorney you no longer work with, or the email on file is outdated. | Contact the attorney of record, or update correspondence details with the trademark office. |
| Trademark status problem | The application is abandoned, suspended or has an unanswered office action. | Resolve the status with the office. A dead mark cannot support enrollment. |
| Owner mismatch | The trademark belongs to a different person or company than the applicant. | Apply as the owner, or get properly authorized. Assign or record ownership changes where needed. |
How long does Amazon Brand Registry take?
There are two clocks. The trademark comes first: a USPTO registration commonly takes many months, and longer if you receive an office action. Using a pending application where Amazon accepts it can shorten the wait for Brand Registry.
Enrollment itself is usually much quicker. Once you submit the application and return the verification code, approval often comes within days to a couple of weeks. Delays usually come from missing verification codes, unclear images or name mismatches. Treat any timeline as an estimate, since Amazon's review times change.
How do you protect your brand after enrolling?
Brand Registry gives you tools, but it doesn't monitor your listings for you. After enrollment:
- Check your listings weekly. Watch for changed titles or images, new sellers on your ASINs, and copies listed under your brand name.
- Report violations with evidence. Use Report a Violation with test buys, photos and ASINs. Precise reports get acted on faster.
- Keep content locked in. Re-submit correct content from your brand account if a detail page drifts.
- Consider Transparency or Project Zero if counterfeits are a recurring problem and your brand is eligible.
- Protect the Buy Box. Unauthorized sellers can take the Buy Box on your own listing. Our guide on how to win the Amazon Buy Box covers the factors.
- Keep the trademark alive. Meet maintenance deadlines with the trademark office. A cancelled mark can put enrollment at risk.
How does Embarc Consulting help with Brand Registry?
Embarc Consulting is an SPN-registered, private-label-only Amazon agency founded in 2016, with 120+ private-label brands managed. Brand Registry sits at the start of almost every engagement we run:
- Trademark first. Our USPTO trademark service guides the filing with Amazon in mind, as a project engagement. We are not a law firm, so complex legal questions and disputes belong with a licensed trademark attorney.
- Enrollment and fixes. We prepare the application, check name and image matches, and work through rejections.
- Put the tools to work. Through our Amazon account management, we build A+ Content, Brand Stores and Sponsored Brands campaigns, and use Brand Analytics and SQP data in weekly rank tracking.
- Ongoing protection. Weekly account health monitoring includes watching listings for unwanted changes and hijackers.
